On July 3rd, the opening ceremony of the 13th World Peace Forum was held in Beijing.

Vice President of the People's Republic of China Han Zheng delivered the keynote speech at the opening ceremony.

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese people's War of Resistance against Japan and the global fight against fascism, as well as the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations. Han Zheng pointed out that the great victory of 80 years ago provides enduring enlightenment to the world: peace is hard-won, peace must be defended, and peace and prosperity are the common aspirations of people from all countries.

Han Zheng stated that as a responsible major country, China has always adhered to being a builder of world peace, a contributor to global development, and a defender of international order. To promote the common advancement of world peace and prosperity among all countries and to jointly build a better world, Han Zheng put forward four suggestions in his speech.

Firstly, adhere to learning from history and jointly safeguard the post-war international order. The two world wars of the last century brought unprecedented disasters to people of all countries. Humanity must remember the painful lessons of war and draw wisdom and strength from history better. The use of force is not the correct way to resolve international disputes; it only intensifies hatred and contradictions. People cannot revert to the law of the jungle, nor can they allow hegemonism that places itself above all others to run rampant. Faced with a world intertwined with chaos, all parties should share responsibility, firmly uphold the authority of the United Nations, firmly maintain the international system centered on the United Nations, the international order based on international law, and the basic norms of international relations based on the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter, and firmly safeguard international fairness and justice.

Second, we must adhere to unity and cooperation to jointly improve global governance. In today's world, global challenges are emerging one after another, and no country can isolate itself. Countries need to unite and cooperate, continuously reform and improve the global governance system, and jointly address the difficulties faced by humanity. China has proposed a global governance concept of consultation, joint construction, and sharing, advocating that global affairs should be discussed by all, the governance system should be built by all, and the results of governance should be shared by all, allowing all countries to become participants, contributors, and beneficiaries of world peace and development. The joint construction of the \Belt and Road\ initiative, adhering to the principles of consultation, joint construction, and sharing, has opened up new paths for international exchanges and built a new framework for international cooperation, becoming a highly popular international public product. We must practice true multilateralism, adhere to mutual respect, equal consultation, and dialogue rather than confrontation, partnership rather than alliance, win-win rather than zero-sum, and accelerate the construction of a more just and reasonable global governance system, injecting more positive energy and stability into world peace and prosperity.

Thirdly, we must adhere to open cooperation to jointly promote the prosperity and development of the world. Economic globalization is an irreversible historical trend, and the world will never revert to a state of mutual closure and separation. Deepening interdependence and win-win cooperation among countries is the only way to achieve common prosperity and a strong guarantee for lasting world peace. The problems existing in economic globalization can only be resolved in the process of globalization development. There are no winners in tariff wars or trade wars, and unilateralism and protectionism have no way out, ultimately harming the common interests of all countries and the world. Faced with the backlash against economic globalization, we must jointly safeguard the multilateral trading system, jointly maintain the stability and smoothness of the global industrial and supply chains, jointly maintain an international environment of open cooperation, promote inclusive growth of the world economy, and allow the fruits of development to benefit the people of all countries more and better.

Fourthly, we must adhere to the principle of solidarity and common progress towards modernization. On the path to the pursuit of a happy life, no country or nation should be left behind. The prosperity and stability of the world cannot be built on the basis of the poor becoming poorer and the rich becoming richer. Currently, the global North-South gap remains vast, and many people in various regions still live in hunger, poverty, and turmoil. We must persist in mutual assistance and solidarity, placing development at the center of the international agenda, jointly valuing and effectively addressing the concerns of developing countries, continuously bridging the development gap, narrowing the digital divide, and committing to solving the issues of global development imbalances and inequalities.

The theme of this forum is \Promoting World Peace and Prosperity: Shared Responsibility, Shared Benefits, and Win-Win Cooperation.\ Guests will discuss how to strengthen international cooperation, jointly undertake the responsibility of maintaining peace and promoting development, share the opportunities brought by globalization, and ultimately achieve common prosperity and lasting peace for countries around the world.

The World Peace Forum was established in 2012, and it is the first high-level unofficial annual international security forum in China, co-hosted by Tsinghua University and the Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs, and organized by the Institute of International Relations at Tsinghua University.
