Shanghai City Mayor Gong Zheng met with Luxembourg Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Xavier Bertelle and his party today (27th).

Gong Zheng said that China and Luxembourg are friendly and cooperative partners. Shanghai has always attached great importance to friendly exchanges with Luxembourg. Over the years, it has carried out extensive cooperation in economy, trade, finance, humanities and other aspects and achieved positive results. Currently, we are accelerating the construction of a modern socialist international metropolis with world influence in accordance with President Xi Jinping and the central government's strategic positioning for Shanghai's development. We will conscientiously implement the consensus reached by China and Rwanda, give full play to local advantages, and make Shanghai's positive contributions to practical cooperation between the two countries. Looking forward to further strengthening economic and trade cooperation, we warmly welcome more Luxembourg companies to participate in the CIIE, jointly promote investment cooperation in new energy vehicles, steel, satellite communications, green and low-carbon industries, strengthen cooperation and interaction between financial institutions, and deepen bilateral cooperation in sports, culture and tourism. Exchanges in youth and other fields will deepen mutual understanding and enhance friendship between the two sides.

Bethel said that his first visit to Shanghai in 2010 and participation in the Shanghai World Expo is still fresh in his memory. The appearance of the statue of a golden girl from Luxembourg in Shanghai is a symbol of friendship between the two countries. Although Luxembourg and Shanghai are far apart, they are very close. During this visit, I further felt that the two places share many commonalities in terms of open business environment, industrial development, and financial center construction, and hoped to continue to strengthen cooperation and exchanges in various fields. We will adhere to a pragmatic attitude, promote fair trade, explore more solutions, and promote mutual benefit and win-win results between Rwanda and China.

Lex Delles, Minister of Economy, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, Energy and Tourism of Luxembourg, Lu Ruilang, Ambassador to China, and Betanya, Consul General in Shanghai attended the meeting.
